Driving a powerful gaming rig never gets old
November 2nd, 2011
Outside of an expensive and unidentified workstation my mom purchased to help run her business, my first home personal computer for gaming was an IBM PC Jr.
(No hard drive. It took three floppies to boot, people: boot disc, DOS disc, then the application disc... say Black Cauldron.)
I loved it, not to mention the other lesser-powered machines that followed.
None of those were rigs, however. The first one I ever played was my buddy's father's. He was a successful software engineer and splurged on the best PC money could buy at the time (early 1994).
I don't quite remember the specs, but I remember the RAM being triple if not quadrupole the norm. It was the first pentium I ever computed on. And it featured was was then a massive 19" CRT.
(I'm telling you folks, the thing seemed as big if not bigger than the 27" monitor I purchased a few years ago.)
"The Beast," as we called it, handled Windows 3.1 with ease. DOS even better. No slowdown whatsover. It cut through Doom's 320x200 pixel resolution like a freaking champ. It was the fastest, most capable PC I had ever sat behind.
I loved it.
Since then, I've had the pleasure of sitting behind numerous, state-of-the art PC gaming rigs. Alienwares very much included. And I gotta say, there really is nothing quite like it.
Yes, Windows can be a pain at times. Patch and post-release updates annoying. But it never gets old sitting behind what you know is the fastest draw in the world.
Admittedly, my two-year old M11X is more than capable of handling today's games. But there's nothing quite like max settings running with ease.
When's the last (or first) time you sat behind a blistering fast and well-equipped rig?

My first "Rig" was a Cyrix powered PC with a 1MB dedicated video card, it was top-notch at its time, and yes, it still works.-

The Fastest Rig i've ever sat behind probably has to be my current one. I'm very happy with it. $1000 parts purchase from Newegg, and it runs like a champ. Few hiccups in the beginning but it's seems to have ironed out now.
