Now in stores: Civilization V blowing up review scores
September 21st, 2010

Says one excited Slashdotter: "Defying the urge to phone-in an unambitious sequel and coast on past successes, Sid Meier's Civilization V is anything but a lazy rehash. It feels almost as if someone described the concept of the renowned 19-year-old turn-based strategy series to a talented designer who'd never played it, and let him come up with his own version. It's similar enough to be familiar to veterans, different enough to be fresh, and its polish and accessibility make it a great place for new players to pick up one hell of a Civ addiction."
PC Gamer scored it at 93, saying its "gorgeous visuals are a great place to start or renew your interest in global domination." Gametrailers.com gave it 9.4 out of 10. G4TV gave it 5 out of 5, calling it a "fantastic turn-based strategy game," and "in many ways, the best representation of the series and certainly the most accessible for new and old players alike." IGN gave the game an "Outstanding 9.0," saying, "This is the first Civilization for PC that is worth just about every person's time."
For any gamers wary of its "strategy" label, a free demo of Civilization V is available on Steam. A trailer of the $50 game can be seen here.
