What are your favorite custom gaming songs?
October 11th, 2011
Whether a game officially supports custom soundtracks or not, I've been known to blast a custom playlist from time to time—particularly during LAN, raiding, or persistant action gameplay.
There are, of course, a lot of good songs that fit the mood. But the following are probably some of my all-time favorites, even though they're a bit eclectic:
- "The God That Failed" by Metallica. Even though I'm a devout man, and I like pre-1991 Metallica albums a lot more than post-1991 Metallica (i.e And Justice for All)—this track from the self-titled Black album is perfect for just about any action MMO game. At 83 beats per minute, it's not too fast; not too slow. In fact, it makes me feel like a better gamer than I really am.
- "Uprising" by Muse. Not only does this song make me want to start a political revolution, it's perfect for gaming, particularly mutliplayer games. The chorus alone is particularly epic. Granted, Muse is general is good for gaming, but this is tops. It makes me want to overthrow everything.
- "Ridin'" by Chamillionaire. Truth be told, Chamillionaire isn't even in the top 100 rap acts. But this song is perfect for an open world game or anything else that has you persuing someone or something in game. It makes me want to evade. It makes me want to hunt. It makes me want to roll out!
- "Firework" by Katy Perry. Just kidding.
- "Slip" by Deadmau5. This song only works with sci-fi games. It just feels wrong riding a horse or swining a Thor-like hammer while this plays in the background. But when played to a futuristic game, it's driving, cool, and fresh. Just like Deadmau5.
Of course, that doesn't even scratch the surface of great gaming tracks. So what are some of your favorites?Let's hear it!

I usually don't listen to music while I game because my rig sucks so it'll start lagging. However, if it's a low-demanding game, I usually just stick to my classic rock/anime playlist.

Perfect for every raid or moments that a lot of people attack one player/ a bunch all together :3
My list of music changes accordingly with the games and the themes.
I have a song for a lot of games that I've played up until now, even from the years of 2002-+.
