”iTunes of PC games” made one guy crazy rich

$1.5 billion, according to a new report.
His name: Gabe Newell. His idea: The wonderful, crazy affordable, and easy-to-use Steam, which in recent years helped to enhance and re-popularize PC gaming once more.
Despite making as much if not more than other gaming titans such as Activision's Bobby Kottick, Newell is respected by gamers and "runs more to the renegade than the One Percent," writes Chris Morris.
The reason: "Part of Newell's goodwill comes from his openness to the gaming community," Morris adds. "He regularly responds to gamer emails, discussing everything from game theory to his fondness for Singha beer to his knife collection, and has playful interactions with Valve's player base."
At last count, Steam sells over 1,800 games and boasts 40 million active user accounts, more than Xbox Live.
In my opinion, Newell has certainly earned it. Truth be told, "Valve Steam" is on my short list of favorite companies and brands. What about you?

The only thing I don't like about this short article is the line about him being more of a renegade rather than the One Percent. What's the point of that line. People that refer to the rich as The One Percent are such douches, to me it is code for I wish I had their money.
