Is your laptop plugged in and on high performance, and on the exact same settings. Did you update your graphics drivers and BIOS and everything. I notice that a lot of the time people seem to get better performance than me with the same specs in videos. I have to admit it's a little frustrating that someone else is getting better performance with the same specs. Good luck;)

well when i check dell's website it says a nvidia bios update for my 580m is urgent but when i download it..its just an iso file i dont know what to do with

also it frustrates me cause i see people with a m14x 550m cards running crysis maxed out on youtube and being recorded...and those laptops are like 1000 dollars and portable leading me to think a big bulky m17xr3 that was 1000 dollars more and that cant even run the game on high do is a complete rip off

i cant even run crysis maxed with the resolution of that on a m14x

So the update is in the form of an iso file. Get Daemon Tools and you will be able to mount the image in the virtual drive it creates and run then update.

You should also check your power plan. Make sure that the processor state isn't limited, and it's set to run the GPU at full strength.

To get a higher framerate, disable graphics switching so that you're only running the 580m instead of paired with the Intel HD 3000. Leaving switching enabled eats a little bit of GPU strength, even if it's running properly.

Also make sure you have the newest graphics drivers from Nvidia. (Dell's drivers don't run as well)

Have you cleaned your heatsink's cooling fins recently?

Since the "specs" listed on my profile are jokes- I have an M17x R4

This is urgent to do. Make sure you are not using the integrated graphics card when you game. I think as well this is your problem. Also check your 3D settings and make sure your graphics card is salt to high performance so no mater whether it is plugged the NVIDIA driver will not downgrade your graphics performance (power settings under command center is important too) Also. try the new Nvidia Experience Beta: http://www.alienwarearena.com/forums/topic/35171/software/geforce-experience-beta/.

Yeah, one day I should just write a long essay describing how switchable GFX works from a user standpoint and how to coax more power out of a laptop, and then ask an admin to sticky it.

But then again, that would take a lot of time and effort, and I'm too lazy to do that...

msi afterburner shows the clocks running at the settings of my gpu when i am playing a game

i check it and i am have 99% usage and 620 core clock mhz 1240 shaders 1500 mhz memory (which are stock clocks) and they are in use

if i was using my integrated to game with i would not even be able to play skyrim at all maybe only at the lowest settings but i CAN play on high smoother just not nearly as well as i should..the part where i take the huge hit in graphics is when i turn on the antialising and antiscopic filterting to max but even with those settings on i am supposed to be able to handle it and still achieve 50-60 fps because of benchmarking sites and these videos i found
(this is for skyrim)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kykxHZ_0cDo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IldpIwCNdlw

they get fps in the 50s when i use these settings i get 11 fps..yet i have the exact same model laptop and specs
