The "New iPad" aka the iPad 3rd generation and "iPad with retina display" aka iPad 4th generation , both have a "retina" display (2,048 x 1,536) and both have 4 GPU, correct me if I'm wrong is that not more GPU's in say the top of the line GTX 690 and the same as 2 GTX 690's in SLI. (not comparing power just number of GPU's)

Yeah, the 690 has 2 GPUs. Its basically 2 680s on one card.

Yeah, but isn't really the same type of GPU that you'd find in a desktop card.

if you notice, when u use the ipad for gaming, u can feel the whole things really hot because they use a different type of GPU than the desktop.. similar to the laptop. OVer all, i would still prefer the 690 ^_^

if that's the case why not do both? you could probably get a 680 and still be able to afford an ipad instead of buying a 690

Yea i mean number wise there are more GPUs than the gtx 690 but that essentially means nothing

If you notice I said not comparing power because there is no way it would beat a GTX 690 not even a GTX 660 I just wanted to know if what I stated was true.

Desktops hardware is different (ALOT more powerful) than mobile devices.

A graphic card or CPU in a Desktop is different to the same graphic card or CPU in a laptop or Tablet

as everyone has said they are quite different. i don't think you can really compare the two
