For Honor Open Beta Announced, Here's When It Starts And What's Included

An open beta for Ubisoft's swordfighting game For Honor will be held immediately before launch, the company announced today. The beta will run February 9-12, with the full game coming out on February 14.

The beta features four modes: including Elimination, Dominion, Brawl, and Duel. There are nine heroes in the beta. The full game contains 12 heroes and five modes, so beta players are getting to try a good chunk of the complete game's content. The beta is being held on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

This is not the first time Ubisoft is inviting people to try For Honor before launch, as a closed beta ran January 26-29.

Ubisoft also announced today that it has recruited some celebrities to play For Honor for a "War of the Factions" competition. Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead), Jason Mamoa (Game of Thrones), Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones), and MMA star Demetrious Johnson will compete alongside "top Twitch streamers" on February 7, starting at 2 PM PT. In other news, Nvidia has announced that you can get For Honor (or Ghost Recon: Wildlands) for free when you buy a select video card.

I was pretty excited about this, but after playing the beta, it just wasn't what I hoped it would be. Lot of people love it, but not my style of gameplay. I was hoping for more fast paced and arcadelike combat. I would probably play it as a PvE co-op game like Warhammer Vermentide, but just felt too much like Mortal Kombat/Soul Caliber with a roaming battlefield.
