Origin allows you to customize the download speed, the FPS counter and more

  • 339

EA rolled out a new update for its Origin service. The update includes several options for PC gamers, including the ability to set a download speed limit - why this important option took so long is not clear.

In addition, Origin has the opportunity to include FPS-counter in games - it simply displays the frame rate in the running game. A trifle, but definitely nice, even if all have long used alternatives.

Also, EA introduced cross-game invitations, allowing you to send invites even if a friend is already playing something.

You couldn't alter download speed before? That's hilarious.

If you have an Nvidia card, you can turn on the fps counter though the GeForce Experience program.
Settings > Share > Settings > HUD layout > FPS Counter

If there's one thing EA does well, it's not doing anything.

Important things that should have been there from the start, but my main issue with Origin is its Terms of Service and surprisingly invasive capabilities (based on the last time I inspected its internals over a year ago, maybe they've made changes to those capabilities since then but somehow I doubt it). It's a platform I've politely declined and EA have yet to convince me otherwise. Surprisingly, I don't really feel I've missed out on anything special in the years since I stopped buying EA games, back when Origin became their exclusive platform.

Cheers!

Origin is really trying to improve their platform. I don't really get all the hate with it, just because you like using Steam doesn't mean that all the others are garbage.

At least EA is making improvements.  I can't see them returning to Steam so anything they can do to make the Origin client better is a plus to me.
