When is the next Steam sale? Steam Summer Sale 2017 dates and deals

  • 19

PC gaming hub Steam runs a number of sales each year. For those that buy and play games on computers, these are keystone events for the calendar; a time when the latest and greatest titles get sizeable price slashes.

The platform has a tendency to launch its sales at short notice, but the good news is that we’re approaching the timeframe for Steam’s biggest annual blowout – the Steam Summer Sale. A number of leaks have surfaced about exactly which dates this might fall on in 2017, hinting that it might be around the corner. Read on for all the latest news and rumours about Steam’s upcoming bargain-fest.

When is the Steam Summer Sale 2017?

Last year’s Steam Summer Sale fell between 23 June and 4 July. The year before ran between a similar timeframe, between 11 June and 20 June. Looking at this pattern, it’s a safe bet that 2017’s Steam Summer Sale will land sometime in June.

A recent leak could narrow this down somewhat. This Reddit thread, based around an alleged screenshot of a Steamworks developer group, points to the sale running between 22 June and 5 July. The logic behind the screengrab is that Steam notifies developers when the sale is in advance, in order to give them time to prepare.

It certainly looks like a likely set of dates, given Steam’s previous sales.

What deals can we expect in the Steam summer sale 2017?

Steam keeps details on specific deals tightly under lock and key, so it’s hard to say exactly which games will see their prices slashed. Steam used to change its headline deals each day of the sale, but the most recent summer sales have seen the same bargains pretty much kept in place throughout the fortnight. This is good news for those with little time to habitually check Steam in the office.

In terms of specific games, pretty much everything in the catalogue will get some form of deal. The most recent titles will be the ones with the great amount of anticipation, although don’t expect games such as Tekken 7 to suddenly be under £10. Slightly older blockbusters such as Resident Evil 7, however, will be well placed to gather eye-catching deals.

Aside from AAA games, Steam sales are also a great opportunity to take a punt on smaller titles that might’ve previously gone unnoticed. Many of these will be sold for sub-£5, so make sure you sweep up some interesting, and cheap, indie games.

Once the Steam Summer Sale goes live, we’ll update this page with our recommendations of what to spend your money on.
