NEW Steam update with Shader-Pre-Caching!

  • 25

Shader pre-caching, a feature most of you may remember from Call of Duty series, has been released in a new update for supported OpenGL and Vulkan games with the latest Steam client.

This feature will automatically preload shaders for specific video cards.

This should theoretically improve the experience for most users by reducing load times and stuttering.

Everyone is happy now :D Faster is always better (especially for older HDD ;))

Interstellar

Mostly nothing is changed really. As far as I know the NVIDIA driver already cache shaders. And most games come with shader caches already. All this does is that now they are separate from games now. The second run of the game basically is no different than having shader prechaching in Steam and have them before running the game.

Glad that it can be disabled because on most system it just doesn't matter really. I disabled it in the beta client.

Vulkan - so this only works for AMD cards or am I missing something?

Because I thought Nvidia cards already had this.

Well this is unexpected good news.  Nice to see some support for open source.
