LawBreakers Player Count Dropped to Zero on PC [Update]

  • 23

[Update] - Thanks Max_aw

As noted by several readers, other games seemed to experience downtime between 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. ET on January 10. This makes it highly likely that services for LawBreakers were also down. (This was never communicated via the game’s website or social media channels.)

Anyway, LawBreakers‘ player count has fallen to zero before. Readers have pointed out that no one was playing the game for an hour on December 23, for example.

[Original story]

According to Steam Charts, which tracks the total number of concurrent players for all Steam titles, LawBreakers count dropped to zero during the hours of 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. ET on January 10.

With the player base dwindling for months now, it seems it was only a matter of time before people stopped trying to find populated lobbies.

It’s unclear what will happen to LawBreakers. Publisher Nexon has expressed disappointment in the game’s performance, and I think most players are waiting for a free-to-play announcement.

There are comments suggesting, however, that the situation was actually caused by maintenance. PUBG dropped to zero as well during that time frame.

Didn't Cliffy B ignore everyone telling him and nexon that the game wouldn't survive against OW and paladins, at the time of launch?

Suits him.

From the graph it does look like it was some kind of maintenance between 2am to 5am.

"Most players are waiting for a free to play announcement" Yeah... all those 20 players the game currently has.

I remember when LawBreakers was marketed as the best next thing in competitive gaming, and Cliff (i think) actually nevermind, it was some paid chick that said it was "Like Overwatch, but better"

It should've been a red flag after he said "Its the Dark Souls of first person shooters", like what? It's already a red flag for me when game devs claims their game "Is the Dark Souls of...*Insert genre*" unironically, but they mention that overused line in a competitive game that is the polar opposite of Dark Souls.

Combine that with a market already filled by a couple of games, one which is basically genre defying, which makes it hard to impossible to compete with them unless you make a better game, which i think Cliff genuinely thought he did, makes it even more funny. Not to mention that the amount of edge Cliff had was sharper than the game's decline on its player count.

Just wait for a free to play version, then after a few weeks when it dies out again, chuck it out with the other dead games like Evolve and Battleborn.

Cliffy B, the Phil Fish of first person shooters. Except you know, Phil at least made a really great game.

Streamline dies painfully also, while still in early access. That game had/has some potential. I remember that even at the beginning had some problems finding lobbies, right now should be a pain in the chocolate fudge.

The linked article now has an update by the original author:

While writing this article, I did check another title to try and make sure it wasn’t a Steam/Steam Charts issue. Grand Theft Auto V remained online, so I quickly dismissed that idea. It’s now clear that I should have checked more games, and I certainly will do that in the future.

So yeah, it looks like maintenance or a server outage. However, it's only a matter of time before this game does die out completely. And that's no bad thing IMO, Cliffy B deserves to fail in PC gaming for jumping ship and frothing at the mouth about how "PC gaming is dead". It is for you Cliffy :p

Cheers!
