Lawbreakers is a failure, developer turned to new projects

In August last year, the creator of Gears of War teamed up with Korean publisher Nexon to supply the gaming community with LawBreakers, a video game that should have brought us back to the golden age of the arena shooters along with futuristic elements that defy the basic laws of physics. The game itself picked up generally positive reviews and solid ratings, however, players around the world were not willing to spend 30 dollars on it.

Since the competitive shooter failed commercially, the development team Boss Key Productions decided to suspend the further development of the game LawBreakers and intends to redirect its creativity to other, new projects.

"The fact is that LawBreakers failed to find enough large audiences that would generate the necessary resources to keep the game alive in the sense that we originally planned and expected. And while conversion into a free-to-play model seems to be the easiest way out, such a change requires a publishing plan and certain resources, " the studio said in a statement on the official site.

On top of that, they added that "the team worked hard on this video game for the past three and a half years, so they decided to give it another chance." However, what Boss Key implies under the second chances in this context is to support the game in the present state while turning to new projects at the same time.

"We are working on something new and we can not be persuaded to tell you more about it. It's a passionate project that is completely under our control," they praised.

It just seems an oversaturated market, so many games (even from large-name) studio being released all the time. I am finding more and more value in just picking one game — and sticking to it for months, instead of game-hopping… but this means bad news for game devs, especially if they try to chase fashion-wagons (Battle Royale, anyone?).

Lawbreakers sounded nice, but there are too many competitive arena shooters out there already.
