Call of Cthulhu : Madness Is The Only Freedom

  • 101

Focus Home Interactive has released the E3 trailer for Call of Cthulhu :

In Call of Cthulhu, the Player will take on the role of Edward Pierce, a 1940s private investigator, as he ventures to Darkwater Island to investigate the murder of the Hawkins family. He soon realizes that there is much more to this dark and lonely island than meets the eye and that strange creatures lurk in the shadows, ready to crawl out of the pages of mythology and into the real world. He soon finds himself up to his neck in the Cthulu mythos, cultists and weird science, which threatens his sanity and pulls him into the world of madness.

Focus Home Interactive focuses on the fine line between sanity and madness, a common theme in the Chaosium pen and paper RPG that the game takes inspiration from.

Call of Cthulhu is basically an RPG for horror fans. But beware: Sanity is only temporary and is often a curse, especially in a World so Full of Madness.

Nice to see a Call of Cthulhu game going back to Call of Cthulhu.

I forget the name of it, but there was one several years ago that was more like agent big gun vs the bad guys and a few mutants.  If that game ever got any better later on I don't know, I didn't get much past the museum before I deleted it in disgust.

I'm looking forward to this. I don't think there's been a decent game in this mythos since Dark Corners of the Earth.

Still waiting for a crpg based on the mythos personally, the Chaosium tabletop game is top-notch.

This does look good, though.

There have been a few, but some were more appropriate than others. One of the best ones would be super primitive and full of jaggies today, so I won't say it's a good choice anymore. It was the original Alone in the Dark. the 1992 version. There are others using the name, but they aren't the same, and diverge wildly in some cases from the Lovecraft stuff. Again, the original, though fantastic in it's day, is seriously primitive these days.
So there are others that went with the Cthulhu mythos stuff, but I can't remember their names, and they may not be good enough interpretations of the Lovecraft works for your taste. Of course, if you just like horror in general, then some of them are good choices. (Really sorry I can't recall any other names at the moment)
