Female character in Assassin's Creed Odyssey is a canon character
Assassin's Creed Odyssey will be the first game in the AC series in which we will be able to choose the sex of the main character. Unlike the AC Syndicate in which we could play both male and female alternately, in Odyssey choice will be binary. If we choose Alexios, he will be an only protagonist in the game. If we choose Kassandra, Alexios will not exist.
Interestingly, Assassin's Creed has a layered story and fans expect it to be consistent. Thus, for the story to which future games will refer to, there will only be one character, so fans wonder whether it will be Alexios or Kassandra.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey creative director Jonathan Dumont has revealed that it will be a female figure, or Kassandra. This means that your adventures with Alexios (if you choose him) will be yours only, but when is canon in question, in the history of Assassin's Creed, it will be remembered that Assassin's order in Greece was led by a woman.
Dumont has also revealed that players between Alexios and Kassandra will be able to choose also outside of the game. If you buy Assassin's Creed Odyssey in a physical release (on a disc), you will have two cover pages for the game box - one with Kassandra and the other with Alexios.
