Assassin's Creed Odyssey sets new record in microtransaction sales
A few days after the launch of Assassin's Creed: Odyssey (now for € 59.99), Publisher Ubisoft has now released some records that were set in the first week of sales. Thus, in the first few days, the Greek adventure was able to make more money from microtransactions, like no other offshoot in the generation in that generation. Exact numbers did not name Ubisoft.
In addition, Assassin's Creed: Odyssey also set the sales records of its predecessor in the first week. No part of the series could handle more digital and physical units in the first few days. Just recently, we reported on a new player record on Steam. Nearly 62,000 players were simultaneously in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey active. It was also a new record for the Ubisoft series.
The way that microtransactions are built into the game differs also stronlgy compared to the previous title 'Origins'. Ubisoft sees the change as a good way to "reward the most dedicated players and get others to return to Assassin's Creed: Odyssey regularly to see the latest changes we've added." While the Heka loot boxes in Origins could still be bought via ingame gold, this is no longer possible in Odyssey. Instead, the rare Oreichalkos must be collected in the game world for this purpose. In order to get enough of the coveted currency, at least two daily quests must be completed, while at Origins still a daily quest was sufficient.
In the future, additional methods could be added to the developers to obtain ore balances, but the direct purchase should not be included. In addition, Ubisoft denies allegations that the developers have deliberately set a high level of difficulty and have balanced with boosters to move players to use the shop. Boosters, for example, for more experience points and money, are actually buyable items that do not occur in the game world. These optional speed-saving accelerators were not considered, according to Ubisoft, when creating the game and its economy. The game is designed to challenge the player as soon as he enters a new region and challenge him with challenges and opportunities.
