Assassin’s Creed Unity could help rebuild Notre Dame

Sad news indeed but glad to see the gaming side helping out restore this work of art and history.

The Assassin’s Creed series could be used to help restore Notre Dame. Restoration efforts for the Paris Cathedral – which had its spire, roof, and some internal woodwork destroyed by a fire last night – are likely to rely heavily on 3D mapping, which means that Ubisoft’s historical adventures could come in useful.

UPDATE: Ubisoft to donate and giveaway AC Unity for free (https://register.ubisoft.com/acu-notredame-giveaway/en-US) to encourage donations:

Ubisoft has announced that it’s donating €500,000 ($564,000, £433,000) “to help with the restoration and reconstruction” of the Notre-Dame Cathedral, which was severely damaged in a fire that saw the building’s spire, and roof destroyed, as well as much of its original woodwork.

In a press release issued earlier today, Ubisoft also announced that “we want to give everyone the chance to experience the majesty and beauty of Notre-Dame the best way we know how.” To that end, the company is giving away Assassin’s Creed Unity – which is set in Paris and features a highly-detailed digital version of the Cathedral – for free.

More than $1BB donated to Notre Dame so far: https://people.com/travel/1-billion-donated-to-notre-dame-in-two-days-after-massive-fire-ravaged-paris-cathedral/

Sad news about the church at least they did a real world digital scan, of the internal structure, with a laser mapping system, rebuilding the spire will be difficult for them based on the original architecture of Notre Dame.

I would say to use this opportunity to not only rebuild but possibly enhance the structure and pay homage to the previous structure.  Making it exactly the same as before will never be the same.

I agree, but I hope they make it as authentic to the original design with similar materials, no added steel or modern enhancements, more was lost then the parts of the building, the history of the craftsman's work along with art work that can never be replaced, or replicated.

I agree that what was lost could never be replaced.  I don't thnk some steel or modern enhancements would be a bad thing but maybe if those enhancements were hidden inside and not visible and be able to help add safety features that would be the best of both worlds.  Given that they have gotten over a 1 billion dollars in donation it would make sense to add more safety features through out to prevent or mitigate or minimize future risks.

In light of the devastating fire at the Notre Dame de Paris, Ubisoft wants to give all gamers the chance to experience the majesty and beauty of the cathedral through Assassins Creed Unity on PC.

From April 17th at 05:00 pm to April 25th at 10:00 am (your local time). you can download Assassins Creed Unity on PC for free here, and you’ll own it forever in your Uplay games library.

We encourage all of you who want to help with the restoration and reconstruction of the Cathedral to join Ubisoft in donating.

Shouldn't the Vatican pay to rebuild it? I mean, they are one of the highest grossing businesses in the world--and don't kid yourself, they are a business. 1bn is a drop in the bucket for the church.

They're giving away an AC game for free every year, the incident at the Notre Dame just changed the time and title (last year it was Black Flag, the year before it was AC III, so it'd be AC Rogue this year) and free game giveaways are not a good fundraiser.

When you rebuild something, that not it anymore.

Many things were replaced on the cathedral over the years. By that logic we lost it in the Napoleonic wars or even before.
